About this ebook

Branches rip at her clothes as she sprints through the mist, deeper into the pine forest. In a clearing ahead a figure appears and cracks a twisted smile. The girl doesn’t even have time to turn back before her world turns dark…

When Detective Jenna Alton and her deputy, David Kane are called to the dense woods surrounding Black Rock Falls during the Halloween season, they encounter a crime scene that will haunt them for ever. Two teenagers, Avril Lampton and Hank Parker, lie beside the makeshift camp where they had planned to spend a night under the stars, their innocent eyes frozen in fear forever.

Sickened by the sight, Jenna is determined to catch whoever took these two young lives and left nothing behind but the deep pink scratches on the legs of one of the victims. And with acres of forest to search, Jenna has her work cut out for her.

Jenna hits nothing but dead ends until she gets a call that makes her heart pound. A young girl wearing a white nightgown has been seen running for her life through the same patch of woodland. With no thought for her own safety, Jenna races along the perilous mountain pass. But as the girl slips through her fingers and vanishes into the darkness of the pine trees, Jenna knows she’s just walked into a trap.

As light begins to fade and the forest closes in around her, can Jenna stay alive long enough to find the girl and put this twisted hunter behind bars?

This book was a little spooky at times but the ending fell flat. It had a good build up to the climax then suddenly it was over. Bad guy in custody and no real action or thrills during the process of taking him in. That was a big let down. I also wish it would have tied up loose ends with the young girl. I don't like how weak and pathetic Jenna becomes without Kane. She is supposed to be some badass woman and sheriff, yet she falls apart without him and is scared of everything. The book description is sort of misleading. It makes it sound like Jenna gets lost in the woods with a killer after falling for his trap of a girl running away covered in blood. Which is not what happens. Can we have more books in the Beth & Styles series? Or maybe get Carter a cool love interest. Even a book getting to know Kalo more would be cool.

Black Rock Falls at Halloween: cre-e-e-py!👻😳 4+🌟 With this series dubbing Kane & Alton's patch in Black Rock Falls, Montana "serial killer central," it's hard to imagine why the residents go all out decorating for Halloween to make the place as creepy & scary as possible. But they do, every year! And in this novel, someone is staging some of the local ghost legends & luring locals into a blood bath! Talk about axe action! Prime suspense, good pace, plenty of action & good character ensemble.

This was the creepiest D.K. Hood I’ve read yet, and that is saying something! Tension thrummed through the pages and ratcheted up with each chapter. I was loath to put my beloved Kindle down and groaned and even hissed when someone dared to interrupt my rapt perusal. Atmospheric and evocatively detailed, I could feel the chill and sense the fog and impending peril. My shoulders were often up to my ears; I need a spa day to recover from this one.
